Default Macron Power MPT-350P 350W

i was happy to get a look at one of these today because it is one of the PSUs deemed by the Finland Safety Technology Authority as "unsafe", "potentially hazardous, but not immediately dangerous".

PSU is bland looking but anyway budget.

Fuhjyyu 1000uf is generous but marks lost for Fuhjyyu which has had unreasonable failures recently.

ah thanks. this was in a case which cost case+psu less than the HEC. they must have a book of reference designs. Macron is another OEM company. caps are more shitty here though. yeh the HEC was dissapointing. the macron looks like a good one for a recap.

The DTK here http://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1069 is Macron OEM. These should be good PSUs.

It's well-made - should be good for ~300W after a recap of the secondary and aux supply.

That thing looks good except the caps, which are made by the badcap manufacturers. Looks good for 300W+. A recap with good high-quality caps and it should be fine.

Much better than the usual junk L&C stuff we see here.

Several of the O/P side pics show TO-220 and TO-247 devices attached to the heatsink. Those are the O/P rectifiers.

The heatsinks look good for 300W-350W. Why did the Finnish safety agency call it unsafe? I didn't see any of the easy-to-spot safety standards violations. Wire too small? Transformer pri-sec problems?

one of the things i spot crap psu with is wiring too light to trip short protection.saw one a while back with 28ga.
a good one i have here has 16.
a good supply should shut down if any one wire is shorted.guess what happens if the wiring is too light?

AWG #28? Are you sure it was't AWG #20, which would still be too light? 10A-30A through Awg #20 or #28 would be a wire-stripper--bad-smell-generator and either an incandescent light or a slow blowing fuse.
