Canicon 1000uf10V looks bulging. I will replace. The PSU is still performing fine though.

congrats on getting quoted in the cNet article that pauloncall posted about
anyway the more press on the badcap issue the better until someone starts doing something about it.Last edited by willawake; 11-10-2005, 03:43 PM.

Re: Tmp-ans Lc B350atx
The bulging capacitor is used in the +5V standby rail (If this rail fails, you can't start your computer!)
Are there any Gincon capacitors in it? (You should find two of them)
The chip is marked "2003", as shown in the pictures - most likely to be a poor quality one. Some quality power supplies from big manufacturers have their own chips in them.
My LC-B400ATX supply was almost identical to these pictures. I'm glad I scrapped it before it damaged my system! My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Re: Tmp-ans Lc B350atx
That is a 350W P/S?!
I'd be afraid to use it for more than 250W. Those heatsinks and that power transformer are going to get really hot at 350W. I'd love to know what the ratings are of the +5V and +3.3V O/P rectifers. If the part numbers look something like MBR4060DT, the "40" means its rated for 40A, and the "60" means the peak inverse voltage is 60V.

Power Supplies should be boring: No loud noises, no bright flashes, and no bad smells.

Very similar circuits of this unit can be found on http://narod.yandex.ru/100.xhtml?ele...Y-B200-ATX.zip and http://www.eserviceinfo.com/download.../L&C_400W.html
I can also see electrolytics with an unknown manufacturer's logo in the attached picture.
As with my unit, the electrolytics (as well as the output rectifiers and the heatsink) were a bit under-rated.My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Commonly every PSU model number starting in "LC" means that it's an crappy L&C power supply. Those caps with a logo of a planet in L&C power supplies are generic caps.Last edited by Newbie2; 11-11-2005, 07:41 AM.My gaming PC:

Re: Tmp-ans Lc B350atx
na064,
That looks to be an very obsolete Samsung part - TO-220, 600V, 2A, 5 Ohm, N-channel. SAmsung MOSFETs were acquired some time ago by Fairchild. This looks like a decent replacement. It's same package and voltage, 3A, 3.4 Ohm; it's probably faster, with a lower gate charge (easier to drive) than the original.PeteS in CA
