    Philips 42PFL5522D/05 Blown Caps

hi guys ive got the above tv

and it had 5 blown caps on the psu board

I replaced 3 with the exact same voltage 450V but instead of them having 68Uf I used 100Uf ones will they hurt anything ??

I also replaced 2 caps that was 25v 1500uf with 35v 1000uf caps again im worried if they will hurt anything ??

as the tv is working perfectly I have ordered the correct ones to replace in the tv PSU but im wondering if it will damage anything ??

thanks for any help I have also attached a pic marking where the damaged caps was

    cheers

In the mean time, it should be fine.

KXG is not a low ESR capacitor, so it might fail soon. The KY is though.

                Re: Philips 42PFL5522D/05 Blown Caps

My error. The 450V capacitors do not need to be low ESR, so both those are fine.

                  oh ok

that's cool saves me looking for others

can I ask u one more question

is it normal for the 450V caps to go bad ?

                    Re: Philips 42PFL5522D/05 Blown Caps

They rarely fail. Typical cause of them failing is excessive line voltage for a long time. In your case the line voltage would had to have exceeded 450V/sqrt(2) = 318V AC for a long time. Even if this had occurred other damage would have most likely occurred to other parts. They can fail due to poor PFC circuit design but that is quite rare. Do you have a picture of the failed capacitors?

well I know when I took it off the wall after it went out I noticed that the PSU was full of dust and I mean really bad I dunno if that caused excessive heat build up and made them go bad

as all the heatsinks where black u couldn't see any silver at all

as I said I dunno if that will do it

and ill take a picture of the damaged ones for u 2 see and post it

Are those the 450V ones? Definitely bad. Interesting. Luckily you caught that early. If they go bad too much then it can cause further damage to the power board.

yeah they are the 450V ones

the 25V ones had popped the tops open all sanwha branded

I also noticed the 450v ones had leaked electrolytic over the board also

im just glad it didn't do further damage as the only psu I can find on ebay that's the same is £50

So out of interest what was it doing before you replaced them? Slow to turn on? Complete refusal to turn on?

                                no power at all tom66

the power light didn't even come on

so I removed the rear cover and saw the caps was bad

replaced them with what I had to see if it still worked and it fired up with no issues

but want to put the correct ones back in there so it don't damage the psu
