    Westinghouse L2210NW Power and ?

    Greetings Badcappers:

--Just inherited a Westinghouse L2210NW Monitor. I have not opened it up yet, as I have to many others in pieces at the moment. But, it shows the typical power on problems caused by the original Samxon caps. I finally managed to get it to come on, but the picture is all vertical stripes (see picture). Could this be caused by a bad power supply? If so, I will crack her open, take pictures, and order good Digikey Panasonic Caps, immediately.

I have seen this in TV due to bad caps in the power supply, but also seen them due to bad T-CON board.

      Dear Budm:

--Rodger that. I guess I will have to crack her open and see if she needs anything besides caps. It may be a while, but I will report back. Thanks again.

        Greetings EEVBees:

--Well I opened her up and the P.S. board shows obvious signs of overheating (see picture). The Label for this unit shows May 2008, which I assume is a refurbish date. The 2 Watt 100 Ohm Resistor measures 296 Ohms, and surprisingly only one of the Capacitors (the domed one) measured bad. Of course I was not testing at the actual voltages encountered in the P.S. Below is a list of the results.

Westinghouse L2210NW P.S. Bad Parts List
100 Ohm 2 Watt Resistor measures 300 Ohms Bad Replace with 3 Watt.
        2200 uF 10 V Cap measures Unstable&Domed Bad Replace.
1000 uF 25 V Cap measures 937 uF ESR is normal Good Replace anyway.
1000 uF 10 V Cap measures 956 uF ESR is normal Good Replace anyway.
680 uF 25 V Cap measures 600 uF ESR is Normal Good Replace anyway.
220 uF 25 V Cap measures 196 uF ESR is Normal Good Replace anyway.
82 uF 400 V Cap measures 76.3 uF ESR is normal Good Replace anyway.
33 uF 35 V Cap measures 33.2 uF ESR is normal Good Replace anyway.

--I have placed an order with Digikey good Nichicon and Panasonic Caps and the Resistor. I will report back when they are installed.

          Greetings Badcappers:

Replaced the caps and the resistor. Now like new. See attached. Thanks

Great job and thanks for the good news, it is really hard to be 100% sure that the problem is T-CON or bad power supply.
