    RS Medical Nerve Stimulator

    Hi,

Below is a link to 2 images of the circuit board from an RS Medical 4i electronic stimulus device. It is used to provide electronic stimulus via cables and conductive pads to sufferers of nerve pain.

The device was introduced about 10 years ago and service is now discontinued. A new device costs $2000 plus so I am trying to repair this unit, if possible.

It is powered by 5 x 1.5 volt rechargable cells which connect via the white connector in the right lower quadrant. The device worked for over 7 years but will now not power up (no display). Tried replacing the battery pack – no change. Tried replacing the watch cell battery – no change.

The device provides 4 outputs from the step-up transformers, the bulk of the rest of the circuitry consists of programming circuitry (intensity and duration). The 8 pin connector, center left connects to a memory card.

My knowledge is limited to replacing caps in PC monitors and some other minor electronic repairs. Looking for possible failure modes. There are 5 small metal can capacitors, are they likely to have failed, are they replaceable. There is also some kind of power device in the top right quadrant, it sits on a heat sink (both sides of the pcb). This device is inscribed A52 J42CG. A Google yields documents in chinese (appears to be some kind of MOSFET transistor). Is this a likely failure point. .

Any help appreciated. I have only a multimeter (no capacitance measure)

You must have a sad, sad boring life if you hate on people harmlessly enjoying life with an animal costume.

Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore

So do you get DCV reading of ??? at both ends of the fuse with ref. to GND?
Also check and see if you have any DCV on U5, U12.
