For grins-n-giggles....I had on older PS3 controller....sixaxis (no dual shock)

The analog joystick thumb controls were sticky and wouldn't return to center.

Since I hadn't done any soldering in a while, I did some research and Mouser had the joystick assemblies.

So....popped them off and put the new ones in. Works like a champ.


I read something about a 4 pin varistor, but I needed the 3 pin. Here is the PN: RKJXV1224005

Nice, i struggled no end when i tried to replace one of the joysticks, when i had a try a while back.

Nice normally to sort them when they get sticky like that spray some dexoit or Wd40 in the centre of the joy stick it will free up instantly and still work fine

yeah...the sticks were like $5 or something. Cleaning didn't help mine. There was an interesting note about the sticks. You're not supposed to let them go to their physical limits. there was a 40 degree limit or something. Damn...now i'll have to find that pdf again.

the main reason i did it was to dust off the skills. and its fun. i posted because it seemed like few posts i saw didn't have good info or they went to sites selling "refurbished" joysticks.

Sorry bud, those are completely the wrong ones and the caps. You may find those in cheap knock off clone pads but never in the originals only ALPS.

The caps are a specific shape and size as well so you have to be carefull what you buy when fixing controllers. Quite subtle differences.
