Autorange DVM and HV Probe?

I have a Fluke 87 v3 autoranging meter. I bought Tenma HV Probe and it states not to use a autoranging meter. Why? The meter has worked fine to read 5vdc up to 500 vdc and 110vac to 480vac. What am I missing? does the voltage divider in probe confuse the meter?

The HV probe very possibly it have a 1000:1 ratio.
And so by selecting manually the range there is less chances to miscalculate the reading.

The Agilent U1272A and similar have a special auto-scale calculating mode, in which you are just setting the ratio of your probe and the meter display the actual voltage even by be in auto range.

The advice of Tenma is just one warning that it would just alert you up front.
By setting the range manually to 6V DC you are capable to measure up to 6000V.
