    Sony KDL-46X4500 - 6 LED Blink Code

Hi, have a Sony KDL-46X4500 with a 6 LED blink code, no picture or sound. So far, only checked STB voltage, which is 03.37V. There are no other voltages on same connector as STB?

Did a quick google and found that the 6 LED code could be either the main board, power supply board or inverter boards, not sure which one or what to check next? Thanks.

Picture 2 , the blue capacitor/coil? ( with the black dot showing negative side ). Cant really see what it is. It looks like a swollen cap?

What brand of caps are in that psu?

The blue capacitor/coil, as far as I can see is TOKIN R7? Seems as if the capacitors are all Rubycon?

Can you check these type of capacitor/coils using a ESR meter, if so, I obtain - in circuit/leaking, ESR 1.87 ohms?

Removed NEC/TOKIN 4 R 7 capacitor/coil from board and checked with ESR70. Reads same either way around.

That is an inductor for the pi filter.
You have problem in the inverter circuit. You do need to make sure you do have boosted Volatge of around 400Vdc to run the inverter section, also need to check fusible resistor that feeds the 400Vdc to run the inverter circuit.

When TV on standby (red led) I obtain 395.0 VDC, switch on TV, green led stays on momentary and then changes to red 6 led blink code, at this point I have a reading of 328.5 VDC?

Re: Sony KDL-46X4500 - 6 LED Blink Code

328.5V means the PFC is off, no boosted voltage, no power for the inverter.
395V means the PFC is running and you have PSon signal and the STBY voltage is there too. So the inverter should get sufficient power, from the power supply. Next check the BLon pin to see if the inverter gets turned on too.

Only had around 3.35 VDC on BLon pin for about 2 seconds when TV switched on, then went in to blink code? What I did notice was, the SONY logo on the center front panel lit up momentary?

Measure up the all pins on the connector and report back with the pin out name and voltages measured.

                    Sounds like an inverter problem.

That's with the TV off, you have to catch it in that 2 second on time frame.

So I have to take the readings again before the TV goes in to blink mode?

BLon sitting at 1V isn't enough to turn the backlights on. I should have more than 2V.
So you may have to do following:
Unplug TV. Remove the BLon pin out of the plug that comes from the main board back to the power supply (we dont want to feed back power). Next solder a 1k resistor from STB to BLon on the powe supply. Plug the TV back in and turn it on and check those voltages again.

Removed BLon terminal from plug to main board, soldered 1K resistor from STB (rear of board) across to BLon. TV on - 03.37V, after a couple of seconds, TV went in to blink mode, voltage dropped momentary but then went back up to 03.38V.

I have now checked all voltages again because before I had 00.00V on INV_ERR. With TV on (green LED) I have 00.00V, just a split second before TV goes in to blink mode I get a voltage of 03.08V but then drops to 00.00V?

When the TV is on with a green LED, you have 0V on the INV_ERR pin.
But then there is a short blip to 3.08V and the main board goes to blinking? No backlights for 2 seconds or something?

                                        Almost, just tried it again.

Power cable connected to wall outlet and TV, switch on wall outlet (00.00V) turn on TV with panel switch, green LED shows on front panel, approx. 6 seconds later with green LED light still on, the voltage drops to 00.00V. It does this just before the TV enters blink code?

Have never seen the backlights work, also no sound or picture?
