Those heatsink compound can sometime make them stick together like glue.

Pics attached! How on earth do I get this last heat sync off?! You guys can probably make out the charred remenants as a result of a 40W soldering iron and flux x)

I normally add new solder first, then remove them.

Well, the monitor lived for all of 5 minutes, and has now completely died again x( any ideas guys?

It lives again, then died. I'm experiencing a cycle of the monitor working for about 10 minutes and then cutting out again?

Another clue to add, the monitor is recognised by my laptop when the display is non functional, could this be a loose connection, or is it still likely to be the PCB?

As long as the logic (5v) supply is up, the monitor will be identified by the device it is connected to. The problem with this monitor is the 14v rail, so no, it can't be a loose connection. Check voltages when the monitor stops working.

I have re-disassembled it, and have the Power Supply ready to test, could you possibly point out to me where I should be testing? I'm a complete amateur to this business

Problem here is we have a lot of pictures but at odd angles and not really clear enough for trouble shooting.
Can you do a clear front and back of each board straight on - they need to look like these

There appear to be a few cold joints but cant really tell In Pic 5 there is a row of about 6 joints in a row and the nearest looks really bad. In Pic 6 there is something with 3 legs that also looks badly soldered.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

That's great! You took your time and didn't rush it. Way to go. Another satisfied customer

I'm curious as to the concensus of the current Schottky diode that is being used as a replacement in this monitor. Since the one I used to originally to fix this monitor is out of stock at DigiKey.

Good job figuring out about the possibility of voltage spikes taking out this monitor Th3_uN1Qu3

Hi All. I live in Darwin and also lost power three weeks ago on a DELL 3008wfp monitor out of the blue. Found your site and replaced power supply diode 22 with STPS60170CT. And it's working like a treat. Front bezel removal was a pain in tha a##...fingers.

Cant thank you all enought, fantastic forum.

yeah, I disassemble the monitor very lazy and carefully. It took me 3 weeks. I have to thanks the r-sherwood, who sent me the diode. But without this forum , i will be fuck_d!

I didnt believe it will work :] . But as I see how much people have the same problem ... i dont trust Dell anymore. It wasnt the cheapest LCD :] infact its one of the most expensive... and such design mistake is not cool.

Anyway. LCD is back thaks the good people here. So I wish everybody long further usage of their repaired monitors .

                                        See ya

I checked the specs and that looks right. Thanks mate.

If any newcomers come along: try replacing the Schottky Diode located at D22 with STPS60170CT

You can buy one at Mouser in the USA - http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...bnfvkvqmLQgo4k

And a big thank you to "Th3_uN1Qu3" in post #5 for figuring out the problem.
