    MSI K8N Neo (Socket 754) boot problem

    This motherboard together with Athlon 2800 were given to me. The problem of this mobo;

    - when i power on the AVR, without out pushing the power button of the cpu, it will power on immediately(cpu fan spinning) for 3 seconds. then power off.

    - then i push the power botton (after the cpu fan stops spinning), it will power on but; no display, no beep. The cpu fan just keep on spnning without booting.

    Troubleshooting done:

    - clear CMOS;
    - change CMOS battery;
    - reset memory;
    - reset processor;
    - change power supply;
    - i already workbench the unit with only the mobo, proc, mems and VC

    but still the problem still persists

    I did not see any bloated caps, the caps in the CPU area are 4 Rubycon 25V 820 mf, 8 Panasonic 6.3V 1500mf. The rest are OST's.

    TIA guys

        The board has a short somewhere. It should not power on like that unless the bios is set to return to last state. Since you cleared the CMOS the default setting for that is to stay powered down. I had that same board with that same exact issue. Never did find the short.

          i noticed that when i plug the CPU fan to the northbridge fan (3 pin) connector, it will not spin, thus, there is no power coming out of the northbridge fan pin (3 pin). It might be the north bridge has screwed.
