R856 is 15Ω R861 is 470Ω...cannot find the other resistor, check the number...also I am away on holiday today,so hopefully someone will help with other values if necessary.

Hi all, this will be my first attempt at repairing an LCD monitor. I haven't done much repair work in a long time, so I'm dusting off my gear and hoping for the best... Monitor is a Dell E196FPf no backlight. Image is visible on the monitor with a flashlight so I suspect just the inverter, or maybe a bad lamp, though none of the 4 come on at all, even at power up... 2 caps in the inverter section are bulged and have relatively high ESR (2 ohms) other than that no obvious visible signs.

I have a similar situation to smason in the OP quoted above. I have 3 E196FPf monitors and all show the same symptom - the power indicator shows green and stays green - no blinking and no amber. After a quick web search that turned up this thread, I decided to disassemble one - sure enough, it has 2 bulging caps in the inverter section shown in smason's close-up pics.

We've done a bit of minor cap repair to some older model car dashboards, but nothing really like a computer board. Before I dive in, any pointers - things to do, not do, watch out for, buy, etc.?

I'm caught up on other projects and have replacement caps for these monitor boards in hand. Any advice on how to proceed? As I mentioned above, we have some soldering/cap replacement experience, but it was only on car dashboards about 10-15 years old. We've never tackled anything complicated like a computer motherboard. We do have a couple of different soldering irons but, for the most part, we're starting from scratch in both supplies and experience.

My tip - 40 watt iron Leaded solder with flux. more flux. if you are working in a cold place pre heat the board gently with a hair dryer or very very gently with a hot air gun
