Is there a DC voltage on the audio output?
Is the supply voltage to the amplifier good?
Have you tried cleaning the Jack? Sometimes the contacts get dirty.Muh-soggy-knee

Re: Compaq 510 Sound Problem
hi,
here are three schematics that i don not exactly know which one is yours.
you can verify this by identifying few parts that will match on to the schematic vs your motherboard. once you've identified, verify the part number of the burnt semiconductor.
if q505 belongs to fan conn, check fan after replacing the faulty part. hope this helps.
