    Panasonic TC-50PZ80U picture question

    Hello guy's

This TV came in dead, classic smd cap replacement on cm301 on power board made it to wake right up

Was making it ready for sale, when I noticed that there is something not right with the picture.
It does it on all inputs,if you look closely at the attached pic you can see that on the left as well as the right there is a horizontal bar that's ever so slightly lighter in brightness then the middle of the screen.

    Any idea what's causing this?

    It's a TH-50 NOT a TC,my mistake.....

    Re: Panasonic TC-50PZ80U picture question

Looks to me like someone has watched shows in 4x3 format for prolonged periods and caused severe image retention on both sides.

Basically, having the bars on the sides all the time has damaged the screen.

Not that I know of. Wait til Tom or someone else chimes in to confirm but that's certainly what it looks like. It may diminish somewhat over time if the whole screen is used but it depends on how badly its burned in.

I'm running a 9 hr YouTube video now that claims will reduce the burn in.
I put brightness etc on 100% to get it as bright and effective as possible.
          I'm thinking correctly ?

            Re: Panasonic TC-50PZ80U picture question

It is called burn in. Congratulations, you win the prize. A PZ80 with burn in is bloody hard to do. I have done 8 PZ80s and seen no burn in yet, I thought it was a myth!

Anyway, you will probably NOT be able to get rid of it, but there is some hope. If it is burn in it will not be removable, the phosphors have permanently degraded. Some panels can have image retention (IR) if used on a static image for some time, and then turned off without having a proper "reset" performed - as in, the panel has never been powered on for a long time on a moving image. IR and burn in are different, because burn in is permanent damage to the phosphors, IR is just a temporary charge built up on a pixel.

The youtube "removal" tools are basically useless - the best thing to do is to load up a good movie with no static logos or such and play it for a few hours, my favourites are Avatar or Life of Pi, lots of movement and will rid IR pretty quick. You can use "torch mode" settings but it's usually unnecessary, normal settings work fine in most cases.

I have had IR that has taken about a day to fade to invisible.

Try accessing service menu to find out panel hours: See here (scroll down to 2008) - http://www.hometheatershack.com/foru...ur-plasma.html

If it has a lot of hours, looks like someone has used it very well. I've seen up to 14,500 hours on a PZ80 and they still had no sign of burn in. The panels are rated for a phosphor half life of about 100,000 hours, going from the issue you're seeing I'm thinking at least 20,000 hours on 4:3 content to make that noticeable.

I don't know who would watch so much 4:3 on a 1080p 50" plasma panel...

              My PZ70 had some IR.

It was a vertical line on the right hand side from the top to about halfway, with a box on the end.
--It wasnt hugely notacable--But took 2 weeks of normal use to disappear....

I tried those things on youtube with an old Samsung plasma--Waste of electricity--did absolutely nothing, although with that one, it may be actual screen-burn, it looks like a corporate logo.....

Got Tv running a movie 24/7 now, will see if it smartens up in a few days.
Was going to try and check hours of TV but,as way to often,I didn't get the remote with TV. Bought some cheap universal remotes as I'm always short on remotes when selling TV's.
But this remote has no info button,grrr...
Will see if I can get a stack of remotes from shopjimmy for $5 each
