Samsung blinking red light / wont turn on

I have a ln46a630m1fxza TV, it worked great until a few weeks ago, the picture would fade behind some colored dots / lines (looked like a TCON failure). Now it has stopped powering up all together, simply a blinking red standby light and every 10 seconds or so the relay cycles itself and the process endlessly repeats.

All the caps look brand new on the PSU, only thing I can think is that the mainboard has failed? I checked all the outputs of the PSU (minus the inverter ones) and they all match what the layout states the output should be.

Should I go for the mainboard replace?

I've also pulled all the cables off the mainboard with the exception of the 2 coming from the PSU. The issue still exists with the stby light blinking.

Re: Samsung blinking red light / wont turn on

For whatever reason now, the unit powers up, the backlights kick on, the unit runs for 20 seconds or so and then it turns off and cycles itself all over again.

I get snow / whitenoise for a few seconds then the screen shows colored lines as shown in the picture for a few seconds then powers off.

I've pulled the cable from the mainboard and the LCD controller and I also tried just pulling the 2 cables going from the LCD controller to the TCON. The results are the same, unit powers up, backlights fire up, few seconds later it restarts itself.

Could be a failing mainboard? I would think that if the TCON was bad the picture would be bad constantly, not OK for a brief few seconds.

EDIT: After leaving it off for a few minutes, the backlights no longer come on, however, I've been able to repeat this process 3 times now, so it cannot be fluke. If I hold my multimeter on pin 13 (5v) and GND until the relay clicks, the backlights will then come on a few seconds later, however the unit still power cycles itself.

I had a similar problem with another Samsung UN46EH5300. On the top right corner of the 2nd pic, the four (4) caps in a row next to the heat sink replace those first then if that doesn't work disconnect the Wi-Fi emitter from th Main Bd.

Re: Samsung blinking red light / wont turn on

I've already tried unplugging everything from the mainboard (minus power) and the unit still does the cycling. The caps though look brand new (I know that is not a good indicator). There are no caps anywhere that even show the tiniest hint of being bad.

However I will replace them as it is a cheap deal.

At this I believe you have bad main board.
See pdf for the power supply SCH.

That is what my gut was saying, but I just wanted to get a second opinion. I have one on order for pretty cheap, was a pain to find. I'll post back once I install it.

                          Another FRC/Logic board Sammy!

besides you unplugging the T-con and everything else, have you also unplugged the main from the PS to see if the backlights kick on after you plug the unit in?

This BN44-00203 power supply board does not have built-in pull up resistors for the PS_ON or for the BL_ON so disconnecting the cables between the power SUPPLY and the main board will not force the power supply and the backlights to come on.

Yeah, nothing happens when I pull the cables, the unit acts like it is not plugged in. Is there a way I can test? I tried shorting pin 1 on the 24 pin connector to GND but nothing happened. How would I test the PSU / backlights without the mainboard? I assume I will need resistors to short between terminals.

You will need two 500~1K resistors, one will be between 5.1VSTBY and the PS_ON (Power ON/OFF) pin, another one will be between the BL_ON (Inverter ON/OFF) pin and 5.1VSTBY. Some may need another resistor between DIM and 5VSTBY.

Well, I've seen the backlights fire up, so I know they work, the unit simply doesnt stay powered up, I guess due to the main board?

Re: Samsung blinking red light / wont turn on

Well I am just curious if maybe the shut down is the inverter board/transformer failing as well. I had a Samsung that worked great played the hell out of it for a week straight, one day I came in to play a movie on it as I was about to list it for sale and all it would do is blink the LED.

I unplugged it and it could come back on for a bit and shut down. if I left it unplugged for a day or two it would come up and play for another week or so then fail again.

After awhile I thought its got to be the PS but the PS was brand new not s refub but new direct from Samsung (person I got the panel from paid 239.99 from Sammy for it). Come to find out it was a defective transformer on the inverter causing all this ruckus!

Mind you this is a newer panel that has the PS/Inverter combo board.

I replaced all 3 with upgraded parts and its been working fine ever since!
