    Original Xbox SATA Adaptor

Well I've been upgrading some original xbox consoles with new sata drives.
I bought a dozen of these sata adaptors from china...
The good news is that they are cheap and compatible with the console.
Bad news is that the human side of the manufacturing of these adaptors are quiet poor.
Alotta of the solder on the pins look very dry so I usually fix it up..
The two caps on the board are 470uf 25v (8x16mm) "Chong" branded cheap chinese crap.
I've been using GP caps from a local electronic store but they overcharge too much.
So I've been looking for a better alternative...

At the moment I've been contemplating between:
    Rubycon FLJ 470uf 25v (8*16mm), or
    Nichicon HE 470uf 25v (8*20mm)

I havnt chosen these caps for any particular reason other than physical size and availability.
I'm interested in other peoples thoughts...

You don't need very low esr capacitors super high quality capacitors for those 470uF 25v ones, they're not in a high frequency switching regulator circuit where low esr would matter.

And, you can probably manage with only 16v rated capacitors, since the hard drives work with 12v and 5v, so i sincerely doubt there's voltages higher than 12v on the board.

Any good brand capacitor will probably do.

Yea, actually some of the adaptors have 16v caps...

Where did you see Rubycon FLJ? Haven't heard of that series...

Also, an 80-pin cable probably won't add anything.

Those adapters limit the device to UDMA2 (JM20330 Chip).
"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

the xbox has ata66 chipset, but a cheapass m$ 40pin cable.
if you fit an 80pin cable the drive does run faster - a lot faster.

              ZLJ Sorry...

And yes the cable makes a difference, It tried without and it just caused me so many problems. If you have Premium you will see the difference there as the animations will run alot smoother...
