    NEW71 LA-5893P faulty GPU?

    Hey guys,

I need some help diagnosing this board, let me explain you what happened..

This was a Packard Bell laptop that came to my hands with a non working fan due to dust. Because the body was full of that nasty white glue in the photos i had to dismantle the fan with board mounted on the body. The laptop was working fine (until overheat) up until i finally disassembled and cleaned the fan.
After this I never had image anymore.. Now I got a laptop I can use the body, cooler and fan for replacement, so I want to repair the board.
I don't think I've damaged the board itself removing the fan but I'm unsure, I was wondering if there's anything I can check on the board before I proceed to sending it to reball.

    Thanks.

    Hey there,

Can you please send us a photo of the gpu? Picture on external monitor?

No image on external. The GPU is a nVIDIA 310M, onboard like many others.. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't understand the need for a GPU photo. On the magnifying glass nothing is noticeable. Can you explain the need for that photo? Any particular angle?

      Thanks.

Nope just to check its product number in case it has been a known defective chip. Can you do a light reflow on it ?

Sure, I can do a light reflow. I just bought a used IR6000 V4 and I'm still learning how to use it.. Will a reflow with hot air station suffice?

I would get it to 230 and hold it for 30 - 60 secs,
            see if it helps.

I am a noob at reflowing/reballing and just got my own setup (puhui + aouye 968+)) Did some practicing and I dont see why you couldn't reflow with hot air. as long as you got tc on top checking temps.

give it small nudge when ur hitting the right temps and if you see some movement, you know reflow is good. you just gotta make sure the heat is even.

then see if it helped take it from there.

Yes of course it will be enough. Also don't forget to use flux. You can also have fast results if you use hot air gun and slightly heat the gpu, then use your bga station.
Hope you have good results with your new tool

Did a quick reflow, no change. However i noticed the CPU is heating too fast without a fan connected and shutting off in 5sec. With fan connected it doesn't shut down.

Also noticed the clock generator IC (U47) is heating up alot.

                Any tips? Thanks.
