    Re: p3 running HOT

these irons have been used on my robotics team for as long as 3 years, only one needed a new tip (a newbie screwed it up). we use these irons everyday during build season (first six weeks of the year) and off and on the rest of the time

That should work. You're not soldering for 8 hours straight every day. Got a "professional" rework station where the tip wore away and the heat gun caught fire. Sometimes you get less than what you pay for.

my iron uses a weller-style replacement tip which the store stocked

the tip is fine, if it dies, ill buy a good brand one, but my experience tells me these are good irons

That's a good one. Looks just like the handle on my MPJA temp controlled one.

                  Hi Ratdude

                  That iron looks OK.

The pliers look like the ones I have.

The solder sucker is like the first one I had. It works, but you have to constantly push the spring back down.

You may want to try the bulb-type solder sucker that uses a rubber bulb. I found it much easier to use and they're inexpensive at Radio Shack.

I just got a Hakko desoldering gun and WOW is it it expensive.

                  Have Fun,
Oh, and wear denim jeans when soldering!

And always wear pants, not shorts, when soldering.

...It hurts, A LOT, trust me.

i know about the pants, ive soldered pcbs for 2 years now

the solder sucker works for me- spring ones can be cleaned out better

oh, does having a 3- prong plug make it any nicer?
