    Dell E197FPb

So, this lady had this dell monitor /w her P4 775 pc. First problem was it took a LONG time to startup. I took it and of course found some bad caps. I got some overpriced nichicons from radioshack (axial lead, had to do some bending but it worked) and two used pannys. She had it 2 months. Then the power light came on, but no screen. I got it back, ordered some rubycons from here to replace pretty much everything but the tiny caps. Now...no power light, button does not turn on.

Since its a monitor power board, should I use ultra low esr motherboard caps? Or should I get some higher esr general purpose caps?

I ordered another power board ($18 new out of china), should I replace those on it with rubys?

If you didn't replace the small startup cap by the SMPS IC on the power board, that could be your problem. These small caps rarely bloat when they go bad. The startup cap is usually something like 47uF 50V.

You can verify by measuring the DC voltage across this capacitor. If it is fluctuating, it is bad. It could also be too low for the SMPS IC.

oh well, I already ordered the board from china (only $18). I'm going to replace the craps with those rubys when I get it (after I put it in by itself to make sure that is the reason)
