Re: Chimei CMV 221D - Question about replacement capacitors

The only thing I see on the Capacitor is Forever(in cursive) so I will replace that one also I noticed that 3 of the capacitors that this other guy replaced are wrong (in the pictures of the board that is just like mine) it shows them as 470uf 25 v, and he replaced them with 330uf 25 v so that seems like that is an issue. the brand name on those is Choyo ...lol I am new to this but I have had pretty good luck with repairing things, it's just that I know how to repair the things I just need to get up on the lingo for what the stuff is actually called.

Hmm, interesting. The seller has pictures with BUD written in red. Budm is a member here and his album shows the exact same pictures.

@Budm, any working relationship with sghill99? I know sghill99 is a member here too. 661 is a California area code.

edit: Nevermind. Found my answer on fixya.com. Just for the record, I was only curious because I thought sghill99 was using your photos in his auction site without your permission.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

Re: Chimei CMV 221D - Question about replacement capacitors

            Another thread I never finished....

Last year I finally fixed this monitor, the fault was indeed bad CCFLs. At the time I originally posted this, I wasn't confident to replace the lamps without breaking the panel, but after doing other monitors since then I thought I would give it a try.

I tried Budm's CFL test trick and found the monitor stayed on just fine with the two upper lamps replaced with external ones. Upon very close inspection I noticed when those lamps were running, I could smell ozone in the top right corner where the yellow patch is.

I bought new CCFLs for it (Pack of 10 actually to have some spare) from a seller on eBay in Hong Kong. They were shipped wrapped in bubble wrap and put individually into sections of PVC pipe. None arrived broken. They are branded XHKQ if that is of interest or means anything to anyone.

I cleared my table and disassembled the panel. Once I removed the old lamps it was obvious the problem - the top two had cracked on one end, and one even fell apart when I removed it.

With the new lamps it was fine but unfortunately the white plastic backing layer of the panel assembly was yellowed as well as the CCFL reflector channel and this was unfixable. Fortunately the yellow is not that noticeable in normal operation being up in the corner anyway so I still don't care.

I have been using the monitor now for some months and it has been working just fine. It's great for Kicad!

As always, thanks to everyone who helped in this thread and also thanks to Robert Ashton and his thread https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=37996 for giving me the measurements I needed for the CCFLs.
