    HP w2207 hissing sound flickering

    Hi to all
I just picked up a hpw2207 from CL and it was posted as not getting out of sleep mode. I took it home and connected it and it seems to work fine. I rebootet a few times, turned it on and off and the only two problems I have is a hissing sound when turning booting or shutting down and sometimes it flickers before the picture shows up.
Could that just be a bad connection?
I am not a electronic guy but pretty handy with everything.
    Someone has any ideas?
    Thanks
    Markus

I picked up one these about 2 years ago. It wouldn't turn on and made a screeching noise while trying to turn on. I opened it up, found bad caps, replaced them with Rubycons, and now use it as my "main" monitor.

You probably have the same problem.

PS. Caps don't have to bloat to be bad. From the description of not coming out of sleep mode, it sounds like the caps have high ESR. As the monitor warms up the ESR drops and allows the lcd to function.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just tried to turn that thing on and nothing. Blue light on power button keeps blinking, but nothing else. Was interesting that it turned on when i got it home, connected it and it turned on after a while. Guess I have to google how to take that thing apart. I am right that you want me to look at the psu? Are there any service manuals for this monitor?
      Thanks

The exterior looks very similar to the W1907.These have a very good Power Supply, and 95% of faults I have seen, were caused by failure of the return wiring on the top pair of Backlights,or the Backlights themselves. The channel on the 1907 holding the lamps is the narrowest I have seen for two lamps, and with heat rising, poor quality wire, and poor solder joints,I would certainly bear this in mind looking at your Monitor, just in case.

Thanks. The previous owner tried to fix it and almost burned up the board around one of the ceramic capacitors around the high voltage connectors for the backliht. Fixed that with a smaller solid wire.
But the main problem was 2 dead caps. 1000uf 16v i thing. got two from a local audio repair guy. one was a 1000uf 35v and the other was a 1200uf 25v. after changing them it works fine. nice bright picture and no problems at all.
            Thanks
