    Gateway LP2407 troubleshooting help

Hello My name is Mark. I am the owner of a FPD2485W or Gateway LP2407 from back in 2008. Over the last few years it has had a vertical constant colored line that was distracting but essentially the monitor still worked. However recently this has changed to after a few mins the monitor now flickers then shuts off. I have never posted on these sites and I am somewhat knowledgeable about electronics so I took the unit apart and found no evidence of bulging caps. I have done some reading on the forums here and still don't rule them out. Wondering if anyone might have some insight to assist me. I have some pics of the boards too.

    thanks

    Mark

Hi pictures are quite good - pity that some of the people who could help you
will not get to look at them. I suggest you upload them as follows.
We can help a lot more if you please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.
Do you have a multimeter and soldering iron and can you use them.

Does the set switch completely off or does the powerlight stay on. If so can you see a very dark image of what should be on screen - you will need a
working pc source connected. Sometimes help to shine a flashlight on it.

      Check this voltage regulator.
If my memory is correct it is a 1.8v regulator and it provides voltage to the front button switches.
If it is below spec. you will notice random shut off of the monitor.

Whatever I do, I consider it a success, if in the end I am breathing, seeing, feeling and hearing!

While you are on that board checking that regulator you may as well check the others. There look to be a few - should have a U designation. Test all the pins(ignore the tab)
and post results in this format
            U602
            AIC 1084-33PM
