35v 470uf replacement help...

    35v 470uf replacement help...

    Still learning here. Can replace caps easily and get them to work but still learning the id process.
    I have a ltec 35v 470uf 10x20mm cap and am not sure what I can replace them with that is close enough to work, anything sold here?
    Forgive me if I sound stupid but still learning about the specs on caps.
    I know you can increase the voltage on a replacement but not sure on the uf rating? Or any other rating?

      What leads you to suspect the cap is bad?

      Need the brand and series info off the cap and what it's being used in.
      Series is usually a 2 or 3 letter code near the temperature line, but not always.

      If in doubt, list the info on the cap here, line by line.

      Then you'll need to find the datasheet on the cap, if it exists. You look up the cap and get the manufacturers supplied values. Then we can figure out what available brand and series would be best used to replace it with.

        These caps are swollen on top and are from a power supply out of a flat screen tv.
        The specs are:
        35v
        470uf
        LZG series
        Man:Ltec
        10mm x 20mm

        Having a hard time finding an exact replacement that I am sure will work.
        Great link posted above about explaining things but still a bit confused.

          First, look up the specification for Ltec LZG series:



          In that chart, find the capacitor in question. You will find that 35V 470uF has the following ratings:

          Ripple: 1400 mA
          Impedance: 0.046 ohms @ 100Hz
          Size: 10x20mm

          Your replacement needs to have the same or more ripple, the same or less impedance, and it needs to fit.

          Samxon GT is sold by badcaps.net and is an exact match for ripple, impedance, and size:

          Other options include Nichicon HE, and UCC KY:

          http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...me=565-1576-ND

          Any of these would make a great replacement.

              Yuo should replace all of the caps, not just the ones that are swollen. Just because they're not swollen, it doesn't mean they have not failed, or at the least are not impending failures.

                Good advice! I will do just that.
                The other caps on this board are:
                Ltec LZG series
                6.3v
                1000uf
                8mm x 16mm
                ripple= 850
                impedance=.086

                Trying to find a match here @ badcaps but where do you find the impedance spec for the caps sold here? Am I missing something?

                  For the purpose of finding replacement caps, you can consider impedance and ESR the same thing...

                  Badcaps does not have an exact match for that one.

                  Closest match, should work fine, as it exceeds the ratings of the original:

                  (840 vs. 850 ripple, but ~1% difference is close enough to "the same" in this case)

                        What model/brand TV? There are members here with information that could help. It's not always about the caps in the PSU. Some have known problems that can be pointed out by members that regularly work on them or have done so in the past.

                        It is always best to post as much information as possible in the beginning of a thread. Make/model/size/age/problem description/what you have done. It's easier to toss out the unnecessary info than it is to keep coming back trying to get more details from you.

                        Picture walking into an auto parts store to get a starter for your car. The counter man starts with some basic questions. Make/model/year/2 or 4 door/engine size, etc. Questions are not for his amusement, but to zero in on the correct part for your vehicle.
