    L500D wifi issue

    Hi guys,

Need little help with this, Toshiba L500D : Cannot enable wifi. There is no wifi switch in this model instead it is enabled through keyboard Function key F8. (fn + f8)

Problem is when laptop is turned ON - I can see Wifi light (orange) getting enable but once pass Toshiba logo it turns OFF.

I checked in Bios : WIFI is enabled, Toshiba value added package, Flash card support and Config free software were installed and works OK with every other Functions expect F8 option is not available

Little help would be much appreciated !

    Cheers

        then maybe it's bad.
can you pull the wifi card & test it in another lappy?
and did linux identify the wifi card & chipset?

          Re: L500D wifi issue

Sometimes I get this with machines only allowing certain wifi cards or the original one that came with the machine. Never heard of Tosh doing it but you never know.

Hi Artios7, I agree with you! I have the same kind of doubt. Need to search for the factory installed Wifi card for this L500D could be replaced by someone else, since this job came to me after several 3rd party repairs. Thanks guys

you could search for a bios with the whitelist removed.

                  Re: L500D wifi issue

well i'm not sure tosh use them,
but fuckers like HP put a list of VID/PID i'd's for HP brand wifi/3g cards in the bios.
if the bios detects a card not on the list - it wont boot.

some people hack the list or the check out of the bios, so they can use any card.

look here for a starting point.

I had never heard of that before but it doesn't surprise me. Good to know!
