      Re: Repairing VP2030B

Is it appropriate to continue this thread for additional repair tips on VP2030B or should I start new?

      I recently had a V2030B take a dump.

When powered on it makes a sizzling noise coming from the inverter area.

Noise and screen come on for a few seconds, then black and quiet.

I could post an audio file in case the noise may say a thousand words to someone here.

I can repeat the process by just powering the monitor off and on on the front bezel.

The 3 x 180 caps looked good, in fact all caps do.

I've already replaced the 2 x 330 caps at the ribbon cable as they've been common culprits before.

You should power the board in the dark and see if there are sparks in the area of the ccfl lamp connectors. If there aren't on the board probably the lamps themself are bad.

I didnt see sparks on the inverter area, was trying this without the inverter emi shield.

So is this symptom less indicative of caps due to the sizzle sound?

Ive not seen anyone talk of replacing the lamps on these.

I have three of these monitors, ill swap inverters and see if the problem follows inverter.

It's also possible for the sparking to be near where the cable is attached to CCFL tube. I had a monitor fail like that. It functioned normally, otherwise (I could see my PC's desktop/background image with a flashlight and the monitor turned On and Off as it should.

            Maybe.
We don't know that yet, unless you replaced all of the caps on the PSU (save for the big high-voltage cap on the primary, which typically does not go bad and does not need replacement).

That would be the best thing to do, indeed. If another inverter board does the same thing in this monitor, then it's probably a lamp issue. Of course, also test the reverse to confirm the issue: the inverter/PSU from this monitor in another known working monitor. If it powers on and works fine, then it's definitely a CCFL lamp issue (likely arcing over somewhere).

I will not be surprised if it has bad wiring.

                Re: Repairing VP2030B

The problem went away once i swapped in one of the other inverters.

I had already replaced the 3 x 180uf caps in it.

I'm not sure how much troubleshooting i can do on the remaining inverter components.

Ill look at the psu caps next and can do other side by side measurements with the good monitor unit when times available.

                I don't smell anything obvious.
