So I was never sure if MCP61 boards were worth re-capping or not, mainly because it's a little ambiguous whether this chipset is nForce 4 or nForce 6...
So I prepped two boards, ASRock AM2NF6G-VSTA, and re-capped one of them. My logic was that even if it were an nForce 6, it wouldn't matter because these chips don't sweat much. It's an interesting chip, it's a combined northbridge/southbridge.
So I installed windows, drivers, and a few minutes later, BSOD... First one was nv4_mini and the second was win32k.sys.
Last week my GeForce 6600 bit the bullet. My computer wasn't starting up with it. I did get some heavy use out of it for half a year... I put in a 7300GT instead (The 7300GT is at least on-par with the 6600 if anyone was wondering), we'll see how long that lasts...
Bottom line, MCP61 is a combination of an nForce4 southbridge and an integrated GeForce 6100... Don't bother with it.
