talktalk had 11 engineer visits through openreach so cant see it being a line issue naybe a port issue at the exchange this is my 4th different router im trying and only just got back online now as no adsl light on router its intermitent which does not help.

Are you using the default DNS servers ? Try Googles or OpenDNS

          Re: tp-link TD-W8960N router/modem advice

was on default servers but the routers now on opendns (2 days) ive tried everything i can think of trying had this issue for rougthly 5 to 6 months so just cancelled talktalk contract so 14th november going with bt.
openreach so far have changed master socket inside my flat also as my phone line used to run underground to the green street cabinet about 10 days ago openreach lad put a wire on flat wall across to telegraph pole to the street cabinet so all new wiring then last week swopped e side wiring (cabinet to exchange to a new pair of wires) and still same issues last engineer ran rein tests and found nothing so really only leaves exchange equiptment now or talktalk issue and due too poor service from them ive had enough so cancelled contract.

              Re: tp-link TD-W8960N router/modem advice

talktalk seems to have a lot of complaints about intermittant adsl broadband also various threads about faulty routers hence trying two of theres and two of my own i even tried running lan leads to laptop etc still adsl dropouts last friday had phone line test and rein test done both passed ok no high resistance on line etc so swopping isp provider is next step if fault moves with provider swop, back too openreach to investigate i guess.

                settings:
Username: this will be your telephone number followed by @talktalk.net - for example, 1234567891@talktalk.net

                VPI: 0
                VCI: 38
                MTU: 1432
Encapsulation: PPP over ATM (PPPoA) using VC-MUX
                Modulation Type: Auto

                try that.

thanks will give that a try but after speaking to a openreach engineer yesterday he mentioned it maybe the dslam port at bt exchange that i need to be swopped to another as there heavily congested at times and can cause this issue so when i swop provider hopefully it will sort the issue out as i do notice the dropouts more at peak tiimes ie around 5pm onwards and also at weekends

contention level (number sharing) varies with each isp, talktalk is probably one of the worst.

well talktalk are doing two price increases this year so it will make bt unlimited broadband the same price i know at the minute its only adsl but i get just under 10 meg download which seems fine for what i need it too do i just hope bt can supply those speeds too.

ive tried your setting last two days stj still adsl goes off so will see when i change from talktalk to bt if it solves my issues, a question if anyone knows when i change from talktalk to bt i know my internet gets changed on to the bt port in the exchange but hows the phone line work? does that manually get moved in the exchange or is it software based as occasionally i get noise on the line its so intermitant all line test proves ok so if its moved in the exchange to different equiptment it may solve that issue too.

intermittent noise is probably water in a junction box, or some local interference from something.

see if you can find a patern - time based maybe.

thats the thing my line is new it used to be underground now i have a new line above ground too the green street box then the last engineer swapped the line from the green box to the exchange in theory should of solved the issue but nope exactly the same so its either talktalks end or exchange i guess and no set times been monitoring line for ages as bt asked me to note the times/days etc

in the future they need to switch to STP cable.

i have heard of people having trouble because of everything from faiing streetlamps to arcing light switches.

yes i was speaking to the openreah special faults man he was testing for rein and shine and spent a while testing stuff he could here the interferance himself hence giving me a new line etc hopefully once bt is installed 14th november it will be better if not at least with bt you can ring the faults team yourself rather than going through talktalk

just dont opt into OPENZONE or whatever they call it now.
if you do, your router will turn into a 24/7 public hotspot.

Well a little update i was due to change to my new internet provider on the 14th but guess what engineer messed up at the exchange and put me on to a un used line so had to wait till the 17th for a engineer too sort the issues out which he has and my phone and internet is back in working order. I tried my kodi streaming box to find bt have some software to stop streaming so a quick look in the router setting and turning off smart set up seems to have solved this issue and can watch/stream from the android box now, my average speed is 6.46 down and just under 1 meg upload but i guess over the next 24 hours the speed may settle.
