Samsung 932bplus, 2 sec to blank?

    Hi,

I've been troublesthooting this Samsung monitor model 932bplus for sometime now and would very much appreciate your help.

The image appears for about 1 to 2 seconds before going blank with the power button still illuminated. Recycling the power restores the image.

Suprisingly when I shine a torch light in front of the dark screen the image is no where to be seen. So does this fault fall under the "2 seconds to blank defect"?

Does this defect still point to the faulty power supply or is there a problem with the mainboard?

I dont have a spare CCFL to test the inverter.

    Thank you in advance.

    It's not a bug, it's a feature ?

    Google: Samsung 932bplus
    - hard drive signal controlling the monitor ?

One thing to try is just replace all those electrolyte capacitors and see if 'the feature' is still there.

This board does have problems with caps - not sure about the hard drive signal bit?

Makes sensce to replace all except the Big Cap use low esr caps. The two beside the
inverter transformer may be causing the problem - what make are they? That part of the board has been getting hot.

You should also take the resistance reading of the High voltage windings of the inverter transformer.
Please post the pictures of the bottom side of the power supply board.
This monitor only had VGA and the DVI input, the hard drive does not control the monitor, the monitor will go into standby mode if it does not detect the video signal from the PC.

picture with the resistance measurement is attached. The 3Kohm reading on the secondary dose'nt look normal. Does this point to a faulty inverter transformer? Thanks once again.

            None of that looks correct
Look here have you tested in correct places

The reading of the High voltage winding of 3060 Ohms, that is bad windings.
The Primary winding are the two-double pins on the bottom row (middle of the transformer).

Re: Samsung 932bplus, 2 sec to blank?

I desoldered the inverter circuit's transformer out to get a better understanding of the item and upon measuring and comparing the reading with lcdparts.net, I found one side of the secondary readings to be high as budm already pointed out.

I have three more questions though :-

                >> why is there no display when I shine a torchlight infront of the blank screen.

                >> is the CCFL faulty or old and took out the inverter transformer

                >> will it be better to just replace the power supply board or is the inverter transformer available.

Thank you budm and selldoor, you guys are good.

Do you have a source pc connected with known picture.
It is sometimes very difficult to see.
                  All leads connected
                  Maybe another/different fault
                  >> is the CCFL faulty or old and took out the inverter transformer
We cant tell - it will certainly be old but has it been run 12 hours a day or
a few hours each week. Unlikely but possible to have blown the transformers
                  Inverters are a regular failing
You might be able to test the ccfls on the set in your other thread when we get it working

                  >> will it be better to just replace the power supply board or is the inverter transformer available.
It depends on the value to you and the cost of parts for you compared to say buying a used but working 19 inch monitor.

Transformers are available( as in the link) may also be on ebay cheaper. I dont know about the availability or price of a board. Postage mey be expensive if you cant source locally. Wait until a monitor with a smashed faulty screen comes up?

Did not know it would be available from ebay.

Will order the transformer from and update you guys when it is fitted and the monitor is tested.

Just want to update you guys. I received the new inverter transformer from ebay and soldered it onto the PCB. Plugged in the monitor and the monitor is now back to life without any problems.

Thanks a million for your guidance and help.
