    acer 8930g no post

    Hi everyone

i have 3 motherboards acer 8930g with the same symptom,

they power on but there is no display on the screen, internal or external

i have replaced the graphics card, cpu, ram and cmos battery,

i am testing the boards naked on the bench

the part number is 8930G 6050A2207701-MB-A02 and i have downloaded the

schematic which can be found here

    https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...e16bb74757.pdf

Now what i have seen is that the mxm connector is missing some voltages

(5V in pin 8 which is the power for the card i believe), i tried to give it power

bridging with a capacitor and now the card is getting warmer but still no

    display

any help to pinpoint the fault would be highly appreciated,

    regards

Did you replace by all 3 the gpu with new one and no display. cause that look like NB problem to me.

yes i have tried on all 3 of them a working GPU(9600GT) with the same result,

i have tried with a multimeter on the NB and it does not look shorted, i have also tried

a mild reflow using an infrared rework station but that didn't change anything. Yesterday i also tried to flash it with a

usb using the crisis procedure and the flash completed and the laptop shutdown (i know

the update worked because i could see the light on the usb drive flashing). But still the

laptop does not POST. Googling i read about the same problem due to a faulty voltage

regulator but nothing specific so that i test it

On which pages you missing the 5V in Pin 8, and maybe you have to reflash the bios with a programmer instead of updating.

on page 28 its the MXM connector on the left and i see that pins 16 and 18 should have 5V

(PWR_GOOD_3) when the machine is powered on. But powered on i don't see 5V there,

i am not sure if i am reading this correctly so take in mind i may be wrong.

Also i should mention that all 3 boards power on immediately when i plug in the ac

adapter, i think the fault here is common on these boards.

I don't have a bios programmer so my only option is to either order a new one or

remove one from a working board (which i don't have).

I will update with the results

For me it was the tantalum capacitor C21. Replayed it with 4x330uF SMD and i got picture

I agree to Lord, you have to check cpu vcore, it should be more than 1v to get display, try to replace with 4 capx330u

                same problem here!

I tried 4x330uF and various cards but this one just powers on and no image. It seems to send some signal to the external monitor but no image.

cpu gets warm - all other voltages present, too.

                tried other RAM & CPU.

what do you guys think? Also is there a good BIOS dump?

                br,

thank you polytek - I had to return this laptop back to the customer but asked him to bring it back at some point - I already downloaded and saved your file.

                    thank you again.
