Samsung UE40D5000 , Does not turn on.

    Hey guys ,

Working on my very first LED tv repair.
Bought it with the symptoms that the screen just went bla k.
After searching this forum i found out that this model has alot of problems with the led failing.
I removed all parts carefully untill i reached the leds and they are visibly ok.
Reinstalled the boards and nothing but 5 blinks. No backlight.

Removed the cable between the mainboard and the powersupply and the backlight turns on. All leds are working.

This make me believe that the mainboard is not turning on the backlight OR tv. I dont hear any sound and there is no image visible on the lcd with a flashlight.

    Bad mainboard?

Did you check the BL-ON to see if it is present?
Sounds like main board problem. Try heating/cooling the main board?

Ps , voltages on the powersupply are all good. 13 and 5v present.

When i turn on the tv the led is blinking 6 times and then goes away. Only responds to the remote , not to the touch.

Already tried a eeprom reset but still the same problem. I'll reflow the cpu and see what happens.

Common issue failed Bga solder on the cpu, have the same model same issue. Also had the C5000 same issue crappy small heatsinks on bga chips never good.

Thanks Diah but its not a shorted touch panel.
I did what Reecey/Budm said and reflowed the cpu. Added some flux and heated the cpu for 3 miutes and let it cool for 20 minutes.

Installed the board and backlight came on. Will install the panel tomorrow and see if its working properly.

              Thanks buddys!

Awesome told ya it would be that, you should replace the heatsink with a good one. The little thermal pad under it dries up and fails to cool the chip.

Haha indeed! Will add a better one with new cooling paste. Hope the panel is still ok , i read that they are "bad".

Ok good! I mean the tab bonding. Disassembling the panel is such a tricky thing.

Will update the thread tomorrow with more pics

Re: Samsung UE40D5000 , Does not turn on.

Placed the LCD panel back into the tv. I noticed that the small print/tab bonding is not screwed to the chassis , its just hanging there. I used some electrical tape and placed it carefully onto the chassis so it can't go anywhere.
They also used very cheap screws in the chassis , i replaced them all by screws from a philips panel.

I used a laptop heatsink and glued it to the original small heatsink. Thermal paste on the cpu and placed the heatsink on the cpu with some silicon and let it dry for an hour.

Tv is working perfectly. I do see 2 small black area's when the screen is just white , its probably my fingerprint/dust or something. I just left it as is and gave it to my father in law , he had a 2007 panasonic and was very happy with this tv.

Happy ending on my first LED tv repair!

Indeed Reecey , it was by default on 20. I tried 9 but was a little dark and it's now on 12. Im gonna order a replacement mainboard + leds ( DURIS E5 ) just to be sure and if the panel is not failing i can always repair the tv again.

                                thanks for the help m8

No worries, I also suggest you replace the heatsink on the cpu with a bigger one and secure it with thermal silicon.

I did! I used something similar like this :

                                    http://www.rmcybernetics.com/shop/im...-1280x1024.jpg

Placed it on top of the original heatsink with glue and used silicon to glue it to the mainboard. Its not going anywhere

Yeah something like that or even a thermal pad to transfer heat to the metal backing.
