Can I use laptop CCFL for testing standalone display inverters?

Just got this wild idea. Since CCFL in my laptop just died and I got another, SXGA+ display from very old Acer (however display is incompatible with my laptop) which is light-out, I was thinking about buying two new CCFLs and swapping both.

Than, can I use the one which is still working but dark for testing standalone monitors inverters? The reason why I am asking is displays in laptops have only one backlight connector while the ones in monitors have two so I am not sure whether it may work
