Help! need to solder the wire to the TAB!

55" TV has water damaged on the TAB, after I changed two shorted SMD capacitors, now TV has picture but the TAB has 8 etched copper wires. (Before TV was cut off and T-con board was hot.)
My question is : it is very hard to solder the wires back to the TAB which took me whole day even I was using stereoscope............

PS: I Apologize for the blurry pictures more better pics on the way.

can you not jumper wire around the ribbon cable ?

Re: Help! need to solder the wire to the TAB!

I try to use a junk piece of the ribbon cable to do the job

First I put solder on the junk TAB then try to overlap them together and put heat try to bond them together, because their do have the same spaces.

The problem is the TAB piece is too small to heat it up. I cant use the gas torch, MIG or TIG................

I will have a play with this when I get to back to the workshop as I could do with the practise, I do wonder about the long term reliability of these types of repair though. If you are able I would recommend coming from the via's. The other problem is in exposing the copper track's from the reverse substrate side you are effectively removing most if not all the supporting material.

I will however put some pic's up of the results.

Thank you, I use 400'c iron still can't transform heat to the top of the coupon tape. I try to bond the junk pre solder TAB to the PCB instead of using wires to repair.

PS: If this method works, we can fix most water damaged TV.

Mmmmm, maybe you could use some conductive silver paint and some tape to avoid any shorts while applying the paint.

Good luck making reliable conductive paint. It needs to be flaked silver so there is plenty of overlap for conductivity, don't forget there's a binder agent to hold the silver together and to the substrate.

Pelco 16045 is what you want to use on something that's flexible like kapton tape or a flexible tab bond on a panel.

I would think about using conductive epoxy not paint. Its not cheap though.

Pelco 16045 : PELCO Isopropanol Based Graphite Paint

Conductive graphite paint, primarily designed for SEM sample preparation. The graphite flakes, with an average size of 1µm, are bonded by a cellulose resin with isopropanol as diluent. Good bonding properties on most materials. Graphite content is 20%. Ideal to mount samples on sample stubs or to make a conductive path to the sample surface. Let fully dry before using in the SEM. Maximum service temperature: 200° C. Use Graphite Paint Extender to dilute when needed.

                        Pic1 : Yes, Not cheap, 1 oz is $276.9.

Did you read the comments or look at the shipping times ? It looks like it's coming from China.

Conductive epoxy doesn't have to be that expensive.

Re: Help! need to solder the wire to the TAB!

Oh Oor I did not pay attention to it, i'm in a rush.

If you don't mind the watery consistency and the fact that you may not get all that you paid for, go for it.,Although it is very conductive, there are two problems with this particular product
                              1. It's not very viscous compared with similar products purchased elsewhere. It makes it very difficult not to short out pins on SMD devices.
It's more of a paint than a paste.
                              2. All the syringes had significant amounts of material already squirted out into the needle covers - see attached picture.
You won't be getting the usable amount that you thought you paid for. They are shipped in a bag, rather than a box, so I assume that the plungers get depressed during shipping and the material squirts out.
I sent a message to the vendor about this but they never replied..

                              Didn't Work At All:
Its a great idea, but I let it dry for over 24 hours and it never hardened. It comes in nice syringes with additional tips, but they weren't need since the "glue" never hardened, so I could use it over and over if I wanted......

Just hit the website. The replacement for 16045 is 16062 which in small quantities is 45 bucks and flexible. The epoxy that you said was 276 isn't flexible.

As an alternative you could try a rear window repair kit. I would try it first on some plastic tape and see if it's flexible and stays conductive.

The repair you are trying to do is very tough. I also have microscope to do repairs. I have seen damage to jumpers from water that cannot be repaired because the jumper got burnt. Sometimes when the jumper is in good shape you can use:
                                    3M conductive adhesive 970312

I bought some a few years back on ebay. It is a doubleback tape that has little conductive strains in one direction only (everything in the intrack direction).
It is expensive so the guy sells it in smaller pieces.

That's basically conductive paint, keep in mind that there are different qualities.

The 3M conductive adhesive 9703 is doubleback tape that has conductive strips going one way. It is not paint
