    Dell 2405FPW

I have a broken Dell 2405FPW. There is no sign of a backlight, an image with no backlight, and the lights on the front (power LED) do not illuminate. When plugged in there is a high pitched whine from the power supply. The caps are Elite and Lelon, but don't show any physical issue to me. I tried to measure the voltages that it gave to the logic board and the backlight board.

    to Logic Board
    Black: 0
    ?: 0
    Red: 20
    Orange: 0
    Yellow: 0
    Green: ~7-7.5

    to Backlight board
    Black: 0
    Brown: 0
    Red: 23-25
    Orange: 23-25
    Yellow: 0
    Green: 0
    Blue: 0

If any of those zeroes seem strange, I can remeasure. It's possible that I didn't quite make contact with the wire.

The capacitors on the power supply are as follows:
    450v 120uf PW(M) Elite
    6x 35v 470uf EL(M) Elite
    2x 35v 47uf Lelon RGA A523(M)
    1x 100v 1uf Lelon RGA A523(M)
    1x 35v 220uf Lelon RGA A523(M)

Ill set the ball rolling- with a question. Are F701 and F702 fuses or
ferrite - either way test them as fuses. No power to board.
meter on ohms200 probe to each end.
Did you have the boards all connected when testing at socket
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

My multimeter(s') resistance function does not work, so I'll have to grab a new one, or get rid of the 30 years of battery acid off of the old multimeter.

When I was testing at the socket, I did not have all the boards connected. When I was testing the board leading to the logic board, I unplugged the cable, and measured each wire. I did have the backlight board connected when measuring the logic board cable, and vice versa. I didn't try an measure while the cable was plugged in, as I would have to have it partway into the socket and I was worried that I would short it out. However, I could try to do that.

But nothing more we can do until you get a working meter.

Please dont ask which one to get or we will have another

              Re: Dell 2405FPW

Got an ancient meter working. F702 has no resistance, F701 has infinite resistance.

ok - it will probably say on them or on the board what value they should be.

I would order a few or a fuse holder that will take loose fuses.

                  Re: Dell 2405FPW

                  OK, bunch of questions.

F701, the faulty fuse, has the identifications printed face down. I have looked around this site and the only specification that I can find is that it is a 5 amp fuse. What do you think the voltage would be. I'll have a soldering iron soon so I could just desolder it and order it, but if you have an idea, I could order now.

I ordered a bunch of capacitors a while back for this, but I believe that they might have too high of an ESR to be useful. The caps are as follows.
                  120uf 450v Nichicon PZ Series

                  470uf 35v Nichicon NHG Series

                  47uf 35v Nichicon NHG Series

                  1uf 100v Nichicon PZ Series

                  220uf 35v Nichicon VZ Series

                    Re: Dell 2405FPW

                    The 450v 120uf would replace a PW(M) Elite Capacitor
                    The 35v 470uf would replace EL(M) Elites
The rest would all replace Lelon RGA A523(M) capacitors

Almost any nichicon is probably better than Lelon or Elite but if you can stick to panasonic FR FM or FC (from best to less best) for the small caps - the
                      big cap is ok.
Nichicon should probably be HN or HZ
Incidently the links you gave to digikey are not for the caps described??

OK. I will either return or not use the other caps.

                        You are correct.

                        I'll get that sorted out.
