Pretty good timing on this thread, I have the same monitor with the same problem, and I haven't been able to track down what's going on...

I don't know why you're having so much trouble with that clip, it's not at all complicated. It has a locking tab right above the power socket... press that tab inward (or more like 45 degrees inward/upward), and it'll pop right out.

I was too afraid of breaking something...

I also remember reading something along the lines that it warms up the soldering and things fall back into place, but I may be wrong.

Just wanted to try... anyway, now that I have access to power supply board, what tests can I do with multimeter?

before you give any directions, please keep in mind that so far I have done things like measured voltage of batteries with multimeter... so I am such a noob!

If it's a capacitor problem here it's an easy temporary fix to get the monitor going...

With a hair dryer, blow some hot hair while the monitor is on and blinking thru the ventilation slots until the monitor comes back to life...it will remain on until turned off again.

Wow, that's the biggest load of complete and utter bullshit I've read in quite some time.

1st, I'd measure the fuse. Power disconnected, meter on the low ohms range.
Post what your reading is when you just connect the meter leads together, should be 0 ish, then post the reading of the fuse.
After that we'll need better photos of the devices on the heat sinks, and their part numbers.

When you heat up bad cap with high ESR, the ESR will go down. Hair dryer is one of my tools that I use for troubleshooting in the last 30 years.
