    ? on turning a tv back-light into a sighn

I was wondering what voltage would turn on the florescent tubes, there's 8 of them.
I found a tv on the curb and it worked but the lcd screen was cracked so I thought to use the back-light as a sign.

its very dependent of the TV, but i have done it before! well it wasnt for a sign, it was for something that became legal this year in Colorado.
anyway, with the one i did it with you had to have a load resistor on the 12v rail, 5vstby to the PSU on wire, the BL_ON wire and the DIM wire on the 5v rail just to upstart the backlight.
it is hard, but not impossible.
so, what make and model is this tv?
Things I've fixed: anything from semis to crappy Chinese $2 radios, and now an IoT Dildo....

Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore

I didn't think to keep the boards in the tv and recycled them oops There is a board in the back light and kept that. Does the back light run on ac or dc?

It typically runs on about 1000VAC at around 50 to 60kHz.
Did you keep the little board that drives the backlights?
Why would you scrap the boards anyway - they are valuable!

i knocked one up out of an old 19"hp monitor, ripped most of the screen out.

i use it for putting boards on,not only can you see the traces for testing without flipping the board,it shows up any cracks in the traces also.

Sounds like you have the inverter board but not the power supply board to run it.

Re: ? on turning a tv back-light into a sighn

How much power do I apply to the inverter board to power the lights? Could I take out the board and apply power straight to the tubes?
