    Gateway FPD2485W Problem [Video]

    Hey guys, this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4gMdclziMw

is what is going on with this monitor. Do you think this behavior could be caused by blown/bad caps?

    Thanks

That's a weird one, never seen that before - looks a bit like a self-test may be running...?

Great for a kids disco though

Does it display the Gateway logo when you hit power? Or does it go straight to the panel self-test?

It actually doesn't do anything when you first plug it in. After about 1 hour of sitting with the power plugged in, it will start flashing like that.

I opened the back and the caps seem to be okay, I don't see any puffing of anything. Here are some pictures:

I also made a quick video of the noise it's making up-close:

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated!

Did you get any further with this? I suggest you also look for any bad/dry/cracked solder joints.

I suspect the power supply is fine as the monitor is actually getting power. Your problem is a discrete/logic issue.

Could you take a pic of the board that all the connectors (DVI, D-SUB, etc.) plug into?

Hi I used to have a dell monitor that flashed colours in standby.

The Dell fix is at :http://en.community.dell.com/support.../18217977.aspx

If that gives you a clue

                Re: Gateway FPD2485W Problem [Video]

I actually haven't gotten any further than this yet. I have been looking into repair kits & common problems with this model. The kits are only cap replacements and I can't find anyone online mentioning an issue like this.

I am currently at work but will take some more pictures soon. I haven't noticed any bad/loose soldering or anything that looks abnormal. I'm not really sure what to do at this point. It's still broken apart on a coffee table so I will continue working on it in my spare time.

Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

                Thanks everybody!

                  Re: Gateway FPD2485W Problem [Video]

When it was doing the light show was it connected to a pc.? As I recall my dell used to do this when there was no source - instead of flashing on the usual No Signal message .
Is the monitor new to you- when did it last work ok.
At some point someone will ask what is the make of the capacitors .I have looked at your pictures and I cant tell although some of the experienced members may be able to. Have you checked if they are on the list of "Bad Caps"
You should also post clear ,square on ,pictures of the front and back of the power board and the logic board someone may be able to spot something.
The pictures should be uploaded to badcaps using the manage attachments facility.
If the monitor is new to you check that none of the sockets have broken pins.

Try and find time to read through some of the complex threads that have a lot of views and a lot of posts. Even though they may not relate directly to your problem it will show you what the people (Plainbill RetiredCaps Toasty and many other learned people) who may be able to help you need in the way of information and pictures.
