Msi p4m900m2 (ms-7255)

Hey,

I have this mainboard, it started reseting itsef every few secs,

i discoverd there are a few caps that are bulged

3 1800M/6.3v
2 1000M/16V
5 680M 4V

My suggestion to you NEVER work tired,

When I took out the caps i havent noticed the are diffrent,

the look just the same, so i dont know where to put each one,

P.S have anyone tried using 1000M/6.3V instead of 680M/4V?

Can we have a picture of the motherboard in question?

The 680uF caps are probably OST RLA series. MSI often used them. I usually replace them with 560uF polymer capacitors.

first i want to thank you for replying,

The mainboard is MSI P4M900M2 MS-7255 VER 2.1

you were correct on the ost 680uf they are from the RLA series,

maybe the worst caps i've seen...

do you know anyone in israel that selles them?

P.S i've added a photo of the mainboard after putting the good caps,

there are 4 1000uf 16v KZJ
and 3 1800uf 6.3v KZJ that looks just like the 1000uf/16v

i cant remember the order of each cap...

I don't know where you can find them in Israel, although there are a lot of sellers that will ship there, including badcaps.net.

Use these for the 1000uF 16v Chemi-con KZJ caps, use these caps for the 1800uF KZJ caps and use these for the 680uF OST RLA caps.

thanks for tips about the caps,

for 1800uf/6.3vZG i used decon 1800uf/6.3v sh, worked well in the past...

but i have to find a good replacment for the 680uf/4v and 820uf/4v under the heatsink they tend to bulge

if i won't find anything in IL i will order online...

i still dont know what to do about the order of the caps...

i know for sure that ec18 and ec32 are 1000uf/16v

ec39?
ec2?

maybe some know this board or the main design?

If you have to order onw of them here, you might as well order the rest. That way, you know they are the right series for the job and that they are a reliable brand. I've never heard of decon caps before, so they could be another no-name junk brand.

For the caps you are unsure about, where abouts on the board are they?

i've soldiered new caps just for testing,

im positive it's not their right place...

i'm afraid testing it...

im sure there is some logic where should be 16v and where the 6.3v...

decon=rat poison.
btw those 680@4 must be ultra low esr.
the 560@4 sanyo polys are the best replacement.
as for the confusion check continuity from the +12 4 pin's yellow leads to the + pads of those larger caps.the ones that lead to the +12 must be 16v.
save yourself some headaches and order the abovementioned parts.afaik decon does not make anything suitable for motherboards.
also fill the empty spots around/under the hsf with the polys.
i have a regular sending these in and using the above parts or equivalents will make it better than new.you can correct the beancounters goof.

the board is back to life,

i will take your advice about the grade of caps im using.

I was about to tell you, but it looks like you figured it out. I have repaired sever similar boards using caps like the ones I suggested. So far, they have all worked after re-caps.
