    Film capacitor 20 uF/400 V in Europe?

I need replacement for Illinois Cap 400V 20uF +-10 % axial film capacitor for APC 6kVA UPS. Not sure what went bad first and what blasted the other things, but 0R15 wirewound resistor and 20A relay were blasted heavily, this cap has 5,6 uF and 1+ ohm ESR and is baked from one side. Replacement resistor was burning and smelly immediatelly after I turned it on with this cap still in. I have another bad board but the cap (Epcos) is already going bad with 15,7 uF, so I think this tells me where the problem started.

Now everything I found may be usable, but not really ideal. Original cap is aprox. 34x54 mm, I found leaded ducati http://cz.farnell.com/ducati/4-16-10...ead/dp/1219045 which has 7+ cm in length, for some ugly price. ATM the UPS is working with two chinese "audiophile capacitor" 10uF MKPs in parallel next to each other. It is also not nice but in worst case scenario I will adjust the leads, add some heatshrink for insulation and place some 1M resistor in between to keep them similarly charged. Colleague sells them for 2 bucks each so we are somewhere else. Yet quite many people is already using them for vacuum tube amplifiers, and believe me, there is some serious power sometimes. None of them ever complained so I think it is not that much far away with quality from either Epcos or IC.

that's heavy duty - good enough?

    or maybe a bigger one!

Well it's radial…but I guess there won't be any problem with soldering some wires on it? BTW Distrelec also has these.

OK since I have an order standing-by in Farnell, I selected a cap which I think is appropriate in quality and price, a Cornell Dubilier http://cz.farnell.com/cornell-dubili...rad/dp/2333439
