    Job lot LCD no.2 - Acer AL1916w

Out of frustration with the first display (Dell 1908FPc), i decided to crack open another one from the same job lot.

My hope came true - bad caps All C(r)apXon KF, two 1000u/25v and two 220u/25v, all on the +12v for the inverter.

In 10mm diameter, i only had some Panasonic FR 470u/35v, spec'ed at 1.8A ripple (vs. 1.4A for the 1000u) and FR 270u/35v.

I also replaced the CapXon GL 22u/50v for the primary-side PWM, with a 22u/63v Panasonic FC.

End-result - turns on just fine, Acer logo with a fade-out, then shows "No Signal" for about a second, then goes into stand-by (power led goes orange). Sounds to me like it works just fine

(... Because i was too lazy to dig after my VGA cable - it's under my workbench, behind 4 other LCD's on the floor )

I took the picture with the boards after removing the bulged caps - how do ya lile the big ones? Bulging top AND bottom

Good work! Since you now have a working monitor and if any of your other monitors are the same model, it probably wouldn't hurt to leave it open so that you can:

    1) use it to troubleshoot your other monitors, by swapping out boards to quickly help you narrow down which board is causing problems.

    2) take voltage measurements off it to compare against non-working monitors

Ah ACER AL1916, there are at least 6 versions:
http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/ACER/So you are only using 470uf instead of using 1000uF. How is the AC ripple on the DC?

Seems to me like the AL1916W A's power/inverter board looks like the one i have in mine.

Haven't scoped the ripple on the inverter 12v rail, but... I've at least got a hunch it's a hell of a lot better than with the blown C(r)apXons

If i'll manage to "be bothered to", maybe i'll stick a scope probe in it this week or next week

jetadm123, unfortunately it's the only one of its kind, in this shipment, and unlike most other LCD's i've seen, the "hot" wires are separated from the "cold" ones. In most other cases, in each of those white connectors there's a thick ("hot") silicone-insulated wire, and a thinner white or black ("cold") wire, but in this one, they're separated. The "return" lines go through those smaller transformers.

But yeah, i DO have two other Lenovo 19" 5:4 screens here, and two same-size FSC. I hope i'll be able to put together (through the good ol' "mix&match" technique ) at least a couple more fully-functional screens Keep your eyes peeled on this forum in the following days / weeks
