    fuse question

When replacing fuses in monitor power supplies, should you use the slow-blow kind or the normal kind?

what monitor and what fuse are you talking about? Alot of factors go into place.

If its SMD then most of the time i see them as fast blow. If its the main fuse right after the power input then most of those are slow-blow. It just depends on the application.

It often tells you on the board - there is a message saying use ONLY the same type of fuse?

        Re: fuse question

Yes it does say to use only the same type and rating of fuse but doesn't say what type it is (that I can see anyway).

The monitor is an Acer X193W.

The info right above the fuse (not visible in the picture) says

        4A/250V and it's identified as F301.

If you look on the metal shoulders on the fuse it might say more.
What I am thinking is that if it is a slow blow it is usually described as a T4A 250v T= Time delay. Otherwise its a normal fuse - you should replace glass with glass ceramic with ceramic. (Not that I always do)

            Re: fuse question

Yes there is definitely a T before the 4A. Had to remove it to read it.

Ok so I will order several of the slow-blow ceramic 4A 250V fuses.

Thank you both for the help

              Re: fuse question

If you are working on a board that repeatedly blow fuses put a filament light bulb
across where the fuse would go. If this is a mains fuse use a 40 or 60 watt 240v bulb.
If there is a short the bulb will light bright if not it will light then dim as the board powers up saving fuses.

                Re: fuse question

Well I'm hoping that it won't repeatedly blow. I just got the monitor (was turned in for recycling) and after replacing the caps since there were bad ones, it was still dead. I checked the fuse and it was bad so I figure it won't hurt to get a few extras "just in case" since I have to place an order anyway.

I've always wanted to try this but not sure if the bulb would withstand the current, and blow itself. Can you recommend a wattage for a 250v 8amp slow blow fuse thats been constantly tripping doing my nut in

                  Thanks
