Re: Harman/Kardon Onyx Bluetooth Speaker - No Power

Please help with the repair Harman Kardon Onyx Studio. On the main board burned out capacitors. To replace them i need to know the type and capacity. My speaker works but is not charging. If someone has good advice how to restore the speaker (and what type of capacitors inside) I would be very grateful. Thanks

If you can give us the P/N as printed on that IC 700 then we can look at the spec sheet to see what pin 2 of that IC is for. From the look of it those caps (C7013, 712, 711, 714, 701) are filter caps connected in parallel, MLCC (Multi Layer Ceramic Capacitor, they fail in shorted out condition mode) type, C 712, 711, 714, 701 should be the same value, the C713 is probably <1 uF.
You can remove the one that is not damaged c712 and measure the capacitance.
You should also clean up the board so we can see the traces better.
IC 600 looks to be the same setup.

P\N printed on main board (may be the white paper label?) or on the case?

Thanks a lot for your willing to help, I really appreciate it, only tomorrow will be able to write everything in details. Another problem is swollen capacitor p1352 (blue barrel to the right and "down"), it would have to change. Special tools i have not yet, I want to get information about the type of the burnt capacitors and replace it with a new (by soldering).

Once we get the P/N of that IC the we can find the specification sheet for the IC to find out what those caps connected to pin 2 are for then we can go further, I am sure that they are just filter caps connected in parallel.
And when you clean up the board to inspect the traces then we will know how bad the damage is.

Re: Harman/Kardon Onyx Bluetooth Speaker - No Power

Burnt component seems to be L701, which would imply a short circuit somewhere.
I also notice C633 (Big electrolytic, bottom right) is bulging.

U700 is a TPS54331, of which the burnt inductor would have been feeding Pin 2. Pin 2 is the input, so the U700 has probably shorted to ground and caused the burnt L701.

My theory then is that either:

                        1) Unit was connected to too high a voltage (at least 30v), Which blew C633 and also U700 - did you connect it to a 30v or higher supply?

                        2) C633 failed by itself, causing a supply voltage drop which meant U700 overworked and overheated, then shorted.

The burnt section of board will probably be conductive. You will likely have to scrape it out.

we can only guess what really happened to the speaker, I bought it already broken

Could you find the specification sheet about burnt capasitors' and resistors' types ? Thank you.

Please tell me what is the resistor the fuse in place С701 (burnt, most damaged). In a parallel module U600 it is not (only 3 capacitors), I can't determine its type.
                                С711, С712, С713, С714 - everything is clear, but with this С701 is a mystery.

The burnt component is L701. It's an inductor, not a capacitor. See photos posted earlier in the thread.
