    Viewsonic VP930 success

I have just replaced the caps in my Viewsonic VP930 and now it works like a charm.

The first symptoms where that the monitor would not start right away, I had to unplug it would power up after some attemps. After a couple of days it would seem to power but showed no picture, only the green led would blink slowly.

I opened the case and saw a couple of swollen caps. You can see them on the left side in the attached image. It seems that these two where the bad ones or at least the worst offenders because the monitor worked fine after I replaced them. I decided to replace them all anyway.

I must thank Pico for his post here: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?p=58843, thanks to his explanations I could purchase the caps on my way home because I had not written down their values.

And thank you all for sharing your experiences! It seems that now our devices are built to last, as they should have been (well, to last a little longer anyway )

I have the same monitor, same problem (no power but green blinking light, on opening up same 2 caps bulging (the 1000uf 16v ones)). Need to order replacement caps in the UK, but I'm getting confused as to whether the ones I have in my basket really are the ones recommended (the Panasonic FCs mentioned in the linked thread).

The only caps that came up on a google.co.uk shopping search were these:

    http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/pro...sp?sku=1219463

But they look like they are FM series not FC. Don't want to buy the wrong thing...

    Can anyone advise?

Both series FM or FC will work fine as they are low ESR caps. In some respects, FM is superior than FC.

Thanks, I'll order the FM then since its all I can find and they're dirt cheap anyway.

            Hi everybody!!

I have the same problem with my vp930 monitor.
I´m a bit confused which capacitors a should buy.

I have noticed that people on this forum talk a lot about "low ESR".
What is a low ESR value and how important is this?

A quick look at my local electronics shop website, and I seem to have four options.

            1. Panasonic EEUFR1C102
            1mF 16V
            8000h lifetime
            2A max ripple current
Datasheet says "low esr same as FM series"
This capacitor is listed as out of stock. They can order it for me,
but I will have to wait a week for delivery.

            2. Rubycon ZLJ
            1mF 16v
            10000h lifetime
            2A max ripple current
            ESR 0.038 Ω

            3. Rubycon ZLJ
            1mF 25V
            10000h lifetime
            2.5A max ripple current
            ESR 0.028 Ω

            4. Rubycon ZLH
            1mF 16V
            6000 - 10000h lifetime
            1.76A max ripple current
            ESR 0.028 Ω

I do not know much about capacitors so any help would be appreciated.

            Regards
            Dr.Nick

Perhaps you should provide a link to your seller? so we can see.

1mF is usually the same as 1uF but you need 1000uf?

Hello again, and thank you for quick reply.

                What I mean by 1mF is: 1milli F = 1000 micro F

                Link to seller.

Hi OK- never seen a seller use mf so 1mf= 1000μF in which case any of the caps
                  you list would be good.
Is this one too long https://www.elfa.se/elfa3~se_en/elfa...9-53&toc=19089 is 8mmx20mm

                    Hi selldoor.

The bad cap is 10mmx20mm wide so no problem there.
I should have mentioned that the pitch is 5mm.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi guys I'm new about this forum.

                      About the subject, I've 1 vp930 and 1 vp950?.
I suppose that they have the same problem, I'd like to try your suggestion about the caps. May I use your suggestion also for the VP950b?
Where I can find the list of the cap to replace and the mounting scheme?

                      Thank you in advance.
