GX280 bios custom text

so, I got this 280 desktop from goodwill, no os or hard drive. works great, but when it comes up above the dell logo it says "Property of Northrop Grunmann". I reflashed the bios and it still says it. anyone know if there is an advanced hidden menu to change this text? I want to resell it. more of an inconvenience really.

you need the software to reset the asset tag iirc.

ahhhh damnit. this thing requires a floppy to boot and run the program

only floppies I can find I got for free by a local business I did work for. I just looked them, they're 720k

i bet that if you added it to a .iso for win 98, boot with cdrom support, and in the resulting command line have it run D:\xxx.exe (or whatever .exe it is), you could run it. or does the program you downloaded ask for a floppy disk?

since isomaster is freeware for linux (and I use linux), I often use that trick to make bios update CD's.

make a bootable USB stick with that tool on it.

You can try doubling the capacity by drilling the correct hole on the right hand side. 1.44MB floppies have this hole while 720K floppies don't. If they are newer ones they should work, they were actually 1.4MB ones with half capacity disabled.

Even if not, If you change the BIOS floppy drive option to 720K you should be able to use them. As long as they can hold enough data, of course!

the program itself needs a 1.44, windows sees it fine like 720

heh, looking at the box, they're from 1998

You can punch a hole in the side of the floppy so it is recognized as a 1440KB floppy...
Google for it, but to do this when working with critical data is just silly (BIOS tools)

Get a USB flash drive, format it using the "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool"

Old 720K floppies have a different magnetic coating on them that's opaque if you open the shutter and shine a fairly strong light through it, but 1.44M disks have a coating half as thick that's transparent brown-red.

throw the files on a hiren's cd and boot to dos. or throw on a usb stick and boot off the cd. works on 90% of stuff.
