    i got 160v across the primary cap. Is that normal?

        I checked the voltages on the regulators and edited the picture to reflect my findings.

        So cns1 has no 12v under any conditions.
        cns2 has no 12v or 19v under any conditions.
        I never see the back-light come on.

          Can you just check this again - it should have the same result as touching the probes together, meter on ohms.

          We really could do with some better pictures to work from. take them near to a window or outside for best results

              I can only say what I would do but I live near a Farnell so postage doesnt apply.
              I would recap the power supply and the dodgy cap on the main board. If it still doesnt work
              youd then have to replace all the caps - double the postage.
              If it works with the power supply caps replaced you should still consider replacing the
              main board caps. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend but for a screen that size I think its worth trying to fix it.
