One thing comes to mind: WTF?
He says that sound quality improved after removing the sleeve.
I wonder how much electrolyte the wood or the rice paper would absorb and how much was lost while the can was removed.

Isn't the can _part_ of the capacitor that is in a constant cycle of oxidization and solidification?
"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

sounds like snake oil to me... a placebo at best.

When capacitors dry up they fail.
I'll let you conclude by yourself the difference in absorption in aluminum vs ricepaper & wood

I can't remember where this one picture came from, Could even have been here.

I guess that'd be a capacitor mod for sure.

Someone needs to try it and measure the results.

At the center of the audiophool nutjob ring is this guy! Stuff like this is why they've earned the nickname.

Nothing prevents electrolyte from evaporating like wood a porous substance!

The electrolyte is either going to evaporate through gaps in the top and bottom seals or get absorbed into the surrounding wood and evaporate through the pores. Then the ESRs going to go through the roof and the caps will be trash.

It seems like the more they believe in this stuff the less they know about the components they're messing with and electronics in general.

Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

Expensive audio grade caps weren't good enough.
Does he even know why caps are encased in aluminum instead of rice paper and wood?
Of course, these s have deep pockets, so when the caps dry out they can just buy new ones and perform the same mods to them.

K people like this are on crack. There's no way you could possibly tell the difference by taking off a plastic sleeve? O.o

Now if he had used glass instead of wood it would be a different story.

I wonder if the changes he's hearing are also the result of the electrolyte drying up...

Nah. Probably just from inhaling ammonia fumes.

Or they heat up and blow out the bung or release vent. Here the cases are lacquered shut, so they will be able to reach significantly higher pressures before something gives. The only thing that might prevent these firecrackers from exploding is a failure of the seal around one of the leads, relieving the pressure before the whole thing goes off.
