    Solder 80/20 PB/Sn

I picked this type of solder at the dollar store. Can i use this alloy to hold components to pcb?
On the wiki, it mentions it can hold radiator fins together. Which is usually copper or aluminum.

Am I correct that it has a wider temp range to solidify so it can cause broken joints more likely to form if not held steady?

Normally there is 60/40 Solder for electronic work...Solder does not hold aluminum together.

Lead is cheaper than tin, that's perhaps why it's at a dollar store...

I wouldn't use this stuff if I can avoid it. Yes it may stick but you have to be careful as likely you'll get cold joints if you touch it even slightly while cooling and not have clamps to hold the parts steady during cooling.

        80% lead sounds dangerous,
it may be for soldering metal panels together prior to finishing - like for car body's

Well it is used for copper radiators, I'd imagine car bodies are welded not soldered.

I don't think welding copper works very well in air...

car bodies used to be lead filled along the seams . also for filling dents and rust holes .
copper can be spot welded .

Ok, thanks all. I'm not going to use it.

i have been using this spec with no troubles at all ...MBO 0.7mm Wire Lead solder, +183 → +190°C Melting Point, 40% Lead, 60% Tin,

Just make sure its NOT "acid core" solder
