This one is interesting since simple dimmer type speed control at low speed, the torque also drops at low speed.

Experiment time!
I think you should send it a signal like in figure 4 on this page.
Also, note the full-bridge (also called H bridge) in figure 3.

I think you will need to make a full-bridge for powering the motor though.

BTW, crank the frequency up to make the motor go fast, but don't crank it up too much, don't want the commutator to shatter!

Looks a bit more complex than what I can do. I was thinking just plain-straight 60 Hz square wave chopped from DC. And maybe at ~25% duty cycle since IIRC square wave has 2x the power of a sine wave.

Anyways, my breadboard is all used up right now. Need to finish some other experiments on it first. Hopefully this week (I work slow... and generally I am slow ).

UPDATE!

well, LOL, the drill has arrived, and it has a built in speed controller...

Feels and looks like cheap plasticy thing, but it works alright! Its only rated at 130W, so it doesn't have a great deal of torque. (Yes, there is NO gearbox inside!)
