Trying to re-cap my SamSung syncmaster 920wm

As I have browsed around these forums looking for a way to fix my Monitor, I have come to the conclusion that I need to replace the capacitor.

I look to disassemble this piece of machinery, but I have no idea how to properly disassemble, If it is done wrong I can permanently damage my monitor.

I have removed the stand and I have gotten to the point where I see up to 3 entry points. I have deducted that these are the most probable entry points

Can anyone please guide onto how to open the monitor safely so I can solder a new capacitor onto my monitor.

    Thanks, Ben

Most of these monitors are clipped together; use a butter-knife or flat heat screwdriver and prise around the edge.

Hopefully you will be correct but if not, We can help a lot more if you please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

It will be useful if you can say what the supposed fault was and a bit about yourself - skills tools etc.

There are plastic tabs all around, starting at the bottom edge using thin flat blade to separate the case and work you way around, or flat blade tool as shown in the picture to lift up the front bezel. Once you get the bottom and side partly open, lay the monitor face down and lift the back up with a snap. Be real careful with the flat wire attache to the front panel button assembly!

Thanks for the quick responses, I will begin removing the frame in a few moments, once I reach that step I will send more pictures regarding the machinery inside the monitor

I have removed the plastic chassis and I don't really know how to remove the tape connected to the screen, the two wires on the left I have removed.

You remove the end ribbon cable on the LCD PANEL socket, not at the circuit board side. Lamp connectors will have to be removed from the socket on the board also.

I hope the pictures of the boards will be a LOT clearer as otherwise they will be useless for troubleshooting

Yeah, the actual screen is still attached to the board. So it is difficult to take pictures with. I had to go to work in about 30 minutes so I thought i'd post those for more advice, for when I get back and I want to remove the screen.

It may have doublesided tape on the ribbon cable that you will have to be REALLY careful lifting it up from the panel it is sitting on befoer trying to disconnect it from the socket.

Yeah, I have already done that. Its just sitting in the socket, no clue how to disconnect. Is there no flap or anything? or maybe a pull switch?

Remove all screws from the board with the VGA and/or DVI connectors, use pliers to loosen the screws holding the vga and dvi connectors attached to the metal plate, then use your fingers to remove the screws completely.

Now the board should come easily out of the metal lid that's there just for EMI shielding and for holding the power, vga, dvi connectors at the bottom. But it will still be attached to the power supply through the power cables and to the panel through that flat cable. However, you can now flip it a bit and actually see how the flat cable is connected on the board.

Turn the card the other way around and you can see where that flat cable goes on the board.. it may have some clips at the ends... you either have to pull those aside or squeeze them to release the cable. Or you may be able to just pull out the cable if there's nothing to retain it. Don't use a lot of force either way... if it doesn't come out easily, you're doing something wrong.

The flat cable is usually attached to the panel with double sided tape or something sticky, so if you can get it loose from the panel, you can get it loose from the video board.

On a Fujitsu I have around, the flat cable can simply be pulled out from the video card but on the other end, the connector has some "ears" that have to be pressed (squeeze the connector) and pull out at the same time.

Anyway, like I said... you can remove the small video card with the vga and dvi connectors and just leave the cable attached to it and move the power supply to another desk or simply take a thick cardboard and put (use some tape if needed) that between the panel and the power supply and just move that shield away. The cardboard will insulate the power supply from the rest of the monitor.

I have removed most of the screws, the problem is removing the tape connector between the board and the LCD screen. It seems impossible to get off without ripping it

I think the ribbon's connector has two small metal things at each side,
just push the two metal thingies and pull the ribbon.

Heres a picture of the connector, nothing underneath and those tabs dont pull it out. I think that I will have to use a blow dryer and get rid of the glue. If you guys dont have any other suggestions

The Glue normally comes off with some gentle persuasion, and then just squeeze those cream tabs on the sides and it will come out.

Either squeeze those tabs or gently pull them down, if it doesn't work in one way try the next...as the picture is shown, pull them towards the cable)

Then grab the cable with two fingers on each side and gently pull it and see if it comes out of the socket.

And like i said... why don't you open the metal case where the small video board is screwed to try and remove the cable from the other socket?
Did you simply ignore my previous message? Why are you stuck on removing the cable from that place?
