am2 fan on socket a mounting holes

does anybody know if the plastic bracket bolted down to hold an am2 cooler will fit the holes on a socket a (462) board. just a question.

Just a few data points, but not all Socket-A (S462) boards have bolt-down holes for heatsinks. Those that have them also have different (non-standard) footprints - I've seen 2-hole (8 cm), as well as 4-hole (6.5 cm x 3.6 cm) footprints. In both cases, there are SMD passives close to the holes, so they're probably only useful for backplates on the bottom of the mobo to take some of the stress from directly mounted heatsinks (without the plastic socket-side bracket).

Not really the answer you may have been looking for, but I'd guess that most S462 mobos, even with appropriate holes, can't accept plastic brackets designed for Socket AM2.

oh i was looking for a cheap way to impove cooling. i thought i read about someone using the bracket on a s462 mobo. i have 4 holes

AM2 and 939 and 754 are probably interchangeable. I think 462 only had clip on heatsinks.

Zalman and alpha heatsinks utilize this holes.

Due to high pressure based on AMD specs on A/462 cpus, I used bolt on heatsinks instead. I don't really think one lug per side is sufficient unless there is some decent heatsinks that does have at least 2 lugs per side strap.

i used to have a copper based cooler which used all 3 per side. got shipped off when i made a trade.

Never seen anyone with the heatsinks, seen the holes, just never seen the heatsinks.

You could probably use some zip ties. I haven't done it myself but have heard of others doing it!
