Hi BadCaps list members,
I find myself back in the broken monitor game after several months of nothing to fix. This time around, it appears I have a couple of options, and wanted to hear list wisdom on what to do.
Previously I purchased a Samsung 2493HM which would not come on. I was unsuccessful in troubleshooting the problem. I suspect either the power board or possibly the logic board or both. The panel looks to be in good shape.
Just last night, I became the proud owner of a Samsung 245BW which looks to have taken a direct hit, and as a result the panel is in pieces, but the unit powers up just fine.
A quick internet search shows that the two units have much in common. They both use the same panel, as far as I can tell, and the 245bw power board can work in the 2493HM. The 245BW power board has a few weak spots, such as the three resistors and the usual Chinese caps, but aside from that, it seems to be more robust than the OEM 2493HM power board.
From what I can tell, the 245BW seems more robust and simpler, while the 2493HM has more bells and whistles, ie USB and HDMI support in addition to two mediocre speakers.
My question: which one should I try to revive? All suggestions appreciated.
