    19" Hanspree New York XM-S

hi! Im new to this forum but I have been reading this for awhile now. I have a couple of 19" Hanspree New York XM-S that I'am trying to fix.

The first one, I think, has a problem with the logic board since I swapped the power board in a working unit and it was working. When i turn on the power button, it goes white then slowly goes to backlight (not totally black). I have changed one capacitor (encircled in red) already but same results.

The other one that needs fixing has a problem with the power board, I think, since I swapped its power board into a working unit and its not working. When I push the power button, it goes green for a few secs then 1 sec orange then no light then green again for a few secs then 1 sec orange. The cycle goes on and on for 20 mins until it says "No Signal Input" that's when I can only power up my computer to use it. there is no physical bloating of any caps and I dont have an ESR meter to test them.

    hope someone can help...

You can make an esr meter if you want. Check the link below, the schematic is pretty simple. I was going to make one myself but I couldn't find the ferrite core for the transformer so I just ended up buying one.

Did you check the voltages of the 3-pin Voltage regulators on that logic board? Compare them to the working board?

Hmm Sometimes its better to have a thread for each machine - I am sure we are going to get confused unless we fix one quickly.
On this one can you set it up all connected and with a pc connected and outputting a signal. Then as soon as you switch it on heat sections of the power supply gently with a hairdryer and see if it starts working quicker. Its probably the caps so heat those first - not the big one - the group near the heatsink.

Daft enough it could also be that the two small caps at the bottom one of
which may be the startup cap has dried out and will need replacing.
To be honest they probably all need changing except the BIG cap but try the hairdrier first.

This is my first time to be repairing stuff and Im learning on using tools like the multimeter. Will get back once I tried some of your suggestions. Thanks much

Ok youll soon get the hang of it - I sometimes suggest doing a dummy run for some tests (especially high voltage) where you dont have any power on - not even plugged in
and you do the probing and try and look at the meter at the same time, without the probes slipping. That way even if it does slip you wont do any damage. Whilst it is unplugged you can do various resistance tests to get practice at holding the probes.
Retired caps 2 second to black guide - has lots of tests that are without the board plugged in and here is a off site tutorial
            A multimeter tutorial.
